Research at the Barnett Institute
The Barnett Institute develops new instrumentation and analytical methods to address emerging needs in biomedical research. This development occurs in tandem with basic and clinical research programs, as well as industrial applications, described in detail in the pages of the individual Faculty Fellows (at left). The Institute brings together a large interdisciplinary staff of 70 research scientists and students, working together in a highly collaborative environment organized under the 8 tenured faculty fellows. The laboratories work together to share and apply a wide range of expertise: in mainstream analytical methods such as mass spectrometry and separations science; in supporting fields such as biophysics, computer science, and chemometrics; as well as in the biomedical applications including glycomics, bio- and synthetic chemistry, cancer biology, protein structure and dynamics, and systems biology.
