The Hoehn Lectures
In
1995 Dieter Hoehn delivered the Bradstreet Chair Inauguration Lecture
“Development Trends of Instruments and Systems in the Analytical
Industry” and accepted an invitation to become a member of the
Advisory Board of the Barnett Institute. He is a source of strength
and support as a Board member and has made valuable suggestions for
program development. To celebrate the Institute’s Silver Anniversary
in 1998, Dieter and his wife Inge established the Hoehn Lectures in
Bioanalytical Chemistry as their Anniversary Gift. The Institute is
deeply grateful to Dieter and Inge for their generosity of time and
resources.
Dieter
Hoehn joined Hewlett-Packard in 1965 as a research and development
engineer in the company’s Boeblingen, Germany, Instrument Division.
In 1968, he moved to HP’s Avondale Division where he held various
positions in research and development of gas chromatography products.
In 1972, he returned to Germany where he was active in coordinating
the acquisition of Hupe and Busch, one of the first manufacturers of
high-performance liquid chromatographs and a company that later became
a key part of HP’s Waldbronn Division, where he served as
engineering manager. In 1977, Dieter was promoted to division general
manager with worldwide responsibility for HP’s liquid chromatograph
product line, a position he held until the summer of 1984 when he was
named General Manager, Analytical Products Group. He was named and HP
vice president in 1987.
Dieter
Hoehn retired as Vice President of Hewlett-Packard Company in 1996. He
was responsible for HP’s worldwide Analytical Products Group as
General Manager, including the bioscience program from 1984 to 1995.
He remained vice Chairman of the Board of Hewlett-Packard Shanghai
Analytical Products Co., Ltd. (a joint venture in China) and a
Director of Yokogawa Analytical Systems (a joint venture in Japan)
until spring of 1999. Dieter served as a member of the Board of
Directors of Discovery Partners International in San Diego from 1996
to 2004. At present, he provides his international business expertise
on a limited consulting basis to senior executives of technology
companies and serves on the Advisory Board of the Barnett Institute of
Northeastern University.
