Wally Bzdell

Interim Director of Student Athlete Support Services

Alma Mater: Union College '94

Wally Bzdell was named Interim Director of Student Athlete Support Services in May 1998, after serving as assistant director in the office since June 1996.

His responsibilities are wide-ranging. He provides support for approximately 600 student-athletes from 19 Division I NCAA teams, assessing the needs of the student-athletes and developing programs to correspond. In the Office of Student Athlete Support Services, he is chiefly concerned with the academic performance of Northeastern's student-athletes. He advises student-athletes regarding their academic performance and provides services to help them develop the skills necessary to meet college and NCAA requirements. Working hand in hand with Northeastern's compliance director, Bzdell tracks student-athlete progress in relation to NCAA guidelines. He is recognizable by student-athletes as they come to him for consultation. Since he is close to the student-athletes, Bzdell acts as an advocate for the student-athlete population with university faculty and staff.

Before coming to Northeastern, Bzdell worked as an intern in Student Athlete Services at the University of Delaware from 1995-96. He has also interned and worked as a graduate assistant at Springfield College.

Bzdell received an Associate Degree in Physical Education from Malaspina College in British Columbia, Canada in 1990. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Union College in 1994, and furthered his education with a Masters of Education in Counseling and Psychological Services from Springfield College in 1996.

Bzdell and his wife Lisa currently reside in Boston.
