Jim Shannon - Defensive Assistant

Jim Shannon has the experience from both the playing field and the sidelines to make significant contributions to the Husky coaching staff. With that history, his transition to Northeastern should be smooth as he begins his first year working with the team's defensive tackles.

Before NU: Worked as a graduate assistant coach at SUNY Stony Brook in the 1997 and '98 seasons...coached the defensive line and assisted in the weekly implementation of special teams...off-field duties included weekly scouting and evaluating of opposing offenses and special teams...also responsible for practice and game film editing, supervising of weightlifting and conditioning sessions and recruiting from New Jersey, Long Island and the junior college circuit.

Playing Career: Played four years of football at Hofstra (1992-96)...named Team MVP and captain in 1996...was a Sporting News preseason All-American pick in 1996...earned first team All-ECAC and Football Gazette All-American honors in 1995...began playing career as a standout at Lawrence Central Catholic.

Personal: Received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Marketing from Hofstra in 1997...earned master's degree in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook in 1999...resides in Boston.
