Jason Quinlan - #16
Sophomore - QB
6'3 - 220
South Boston, MA
Catholic Memorial HS
By the end of the 1999 spring season, it was apparent Jason Quinlan was playing the best football of his Northeastern career. He had some amazing days in practice and a solid Spring Game (12-22, 188 yards, 2 TD). Quinlan was the team's opening day QB last season, but after injuring his right shoulder late in the game, he lost the role of starter to Fred Vallett, who didn't look much like a fill-in. Vallett took over and threw for 2292 yards, setting a Husky record for TD passes in a season with 22. With Quinlan healthy, the quarterback battle is on again. The coaches have confidence that Quinlan can be the team's regular as the 1999 season kicks off, but the sophomore signal caller with a strong arm will have to beat out the incumbent Vallett. 1998: Completed 18 of 30 passes for 211 yards...threw for 158 yards and a touchdown (the game-winner to Matt Comella) in the season opener against New Hampshire before suffering a shoulder injury that hindered him the rest of the season...also threw for 50 yards and a touchdown against Villanova. 1997: A redshirt for the year. High School: Earned four letters in football and three in baseball at Catholic Memorial High...served as football captain and named All-League as both a junior and senior...selected as Boston Herald All-Scholastic and Boston Globe All-Scholastic honorable mention after final year...broke school season records for passing yards (over 1600) and touchdown passes (13)...played in the Harry Agganis All-Star Game. Personal: Born Aug. 24, 1977...enjoys running...uncle Jimmy Barineau played in the Red Sox system...majoring in Business...Class of 2001. Career Highs: Passing Attempts, 21 vs. UNH (9/5/98)...Passing Completions, 14 vs. UNH (9/5/98)...Passing Yards, 158 vs. UNH (9/5/98)...Passing Touchdowns, 1 (two times)...Long Pass, 44 vs. New Hampshire (9/5/98).
