Powell will see a lot of time at strong safety, battling with Tony Morales for the starting job. He is an effective run stopper and a very good tackler, qualities which will also lead to regular appearances on special teams. Powell, Morales and Brian Whitman will be the leaders of the secondary. 1998: Ranked eighth on the team in tackles with 48, 31 of them unassisted...tallied career-high seven stops in NU's win over UNH in the season opener; forced a fumble with under a minute left, NU recovered and ran out the clock from its own six-yard line to preserve the 10-3 win...had first career interception against Rhode Island Sept. 26. 1997: Played all 11 games and made 12 tackles, including one for a loss...forced and recovered a fumble in Husky win against James Madison. 1996: Second-teamer in the secondary and special teams player in first active season. 1995: Redshirt season.
