"If every kid worked like Chris McEwan, I would never have a sleepless night," said defensive coordinator Chris Magendantz about one of this season's starting defensive ends. McEwan came to NU as a walk-on and has made his way through the ranks to a key role on the defensive line. He is focused, hard working, physically fit and energetic. After an excellent spring, he is ready for a full-time position. 1998: Played in 10 games...registered 23 tackles, 12 of them unassisted...recorded six tackles in NU's win over Lafayette...had one pass breakup...shared time at end with starters Kwesi Moody and Paul Barry. 1997: In first active season, saw action on special teams...first career tackle came against New Hampshire. 1996 Redshirt season. High School: Earned three letters in football, three in basketball, and four in track at Whitman-Hanson Regional High...named Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic as a senior end on both sides of the ball...also selected as a Patriot Ledger and Brockton Enterprise All-Star after final year...played in the Shriners game...received Northeast Region All-America honorable mention from USA Today. Personal: Born Feb. 2, 1978...Business major...grandfather Peter Sperandio was football star at St. Anselm's (Class of '38) and is in the college's Hall of Fame...Class of 2001.
